Memorial Day Reflections

Dear HFCS Families & Friends,

As we reflect on this past Memorial Day, we are reminded of the profound opportunity it provides us to officially honor and mourn the brave men and women of our country’s military who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation. Their selfless dedication to protecting our freedoms deserves our deepest gratitude and remembrance.

This sacred observance also calls us to embrace the beautiful wisdom Christ shared in the Beatitudes during His Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 5:4, Jesus tells us, “Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” These words offer us profound hope and understanding that our grief, while deeply felt, is not without purpose or consolation.

At some point in our lives, we all experience the loss of someone we cherish deeply. Whether it be our fallen service members, beloved family members, or dear friends, the pain of separation touches each of our hearts. Yet, as people of faith, we find great comfort in the knowledge that those we have lost have joined our Heavenly Father in eternal peace. This Monday provided us with a meaningful opportunity not only to mourn our fallen heroes but to remember and celebrate all those precious souls who have gone before us.

I wish you all comfort in our Lord as you continue to celebrate the lives of those you have lost, knowing that love transcends even death itself.

As we move toward the close of our school year, I’m excited to share some wonderful upcoming events that embody the spirit of our Catholic community. This Friday, our Middle School students will have the opportunity to grow together in faith and fellowship at our annual Spring Middle School Retreat. These young men and women will spend time digging deeper into their relationship with Christ and exploring the infinite goodness of our Lord. Please keep them in your prayers as they open their hearts to God’s grace and discover new ways to live out their Catholic faith.

This Thursday afternoon, we have a special treat in store as our talented 5th grade class takes us on a musical journey through the history of our great nation. Their musical tribute promises to be both educational and entertaining, showcasing not only their artistic talents but also their appreciation for the rich heritage we share as Americans. I hope you will plan to join us for what is sure to be a memorable performance that celebrates both our country’s story and our students’ gifts.

These final weeks of the school year are filled with opportunities to witness the growth, talents, and faith of our students. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing these precious children as they develop not only academically but spiritually as well.

May God bless you and your families abundantly.

Pax et bonum,

Sue Styren, M.Ed.
