Dear HFCS Families & Friends:

Please join us in celebrating National Catholic Schools Week, our annual celebration of what makes education at Holy Family Catholic School outstanding. Starting with Sunday Mass on January 26th, we have a whole week of activities planned to show what our students are accomplishing and to celebrate the community we have built to educate tomorrow’s citizens and church leaders.

The theme of our celebration is “United in Faith & Community.” The theme encompasses the core values that can be found in Catholic schools across the country. Not only are we teaching students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples and enriched citizens in our communities, educators are growing with them. In Catholic schools, we are all learners, servants and leaders. These shared qualities are what make Catholic schools work. They are what make Catholic schools succeed. The theme also focuses on key elements of Catholic education: faith development, academic excellence and dedication to service. These elements set Catholic schools apart from other educational options. They are why families make sacrifices to provide their children with a Catholic education.

I hope you will visit HFCS during National Catholic Schools Week to enjoy the students’, join us for Mass on Wednesday, witness how their faith development continues to thrive and grow. I am grateful every day for the teachers, staff, committee members, parents, parishioners, and volunteers who make our school a success. National Catholic Schools Week is a good time for all of us to thank them for their dedication and service.

Prayers

This month has been one of loss for many in our community. Saturday, Christopher Hicks was called home to our Father in Heaven. Mr. Hicks, fondly known as Grandpa Hicks, was a regular volunteer for our Grandparents program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Many of the children have shared their fond memories of Mr. Hicks helping them as they worked through reading and math. He will be missed. Please keep Mr. Hicks and his family in your prayers.

Parking Lot Reminders

Please do NOT cut across the front of the school evading the carline. The only cars allowed to do this are faculty parking in the front and the three families that purchased the parking spots in front of my office. Please do NOT get out of your cars. Students should be educated on how to unbuckle their seat belts and safely exit the car on the sidewalk side of the vehicle, with their backpacks. It is dangerous when we have parents navigating between vehicles to assist their children. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Pax et bonum,

Sue Styren, M.Ed.
