Building Unity in Our Community

Dear HFCS Families & Friends,

As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week beginning Monday, May 12th, we pause to reflect on the blessings our Catholic community brings to Holy Family Catholic School. This year’s theme, “Building Unity in Our Community,” reminds us that through your generous service, we continue to build excellence in both faith and academics.

You, our families, are the first teachers in faith—nurturing your children with love, respect, and strong moral foundations. This allows our teachers to further cultivate students who walk in Jesus’ footsteps. The spiritual foundation you provide will guide your children throughout their lives, fostering faithful adults who embrace Catholic values and community service.

We are profoundly grateful for our volunteers whose dedication has been exemplary this past year. Your partnership with our teachers creates the environment where academic excellence flourishes. As Acts 20:35 reminds us, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This spirit of giving radiates throughout Holy Family Catholic School—a direct reflection of the values your families instill.

We recognize the sacrifice many families make to provide Catholic education for their children. This gift equips them with a foundation for life through faith, excellence, and service—qualities evident in both our school and the families who comprise our community.

Special thanks to all parents who made Teacher Appreciation Week so memorable for our faculty and staff. Your thoughtful gestures renewed our energy as we approach the end of the school year. We also extend heartfelt gratitude to the grandparents who joined us last Friday, participating in classroom activities and attending our Spring Concert. Thank you to Student Council, Mr. D’Angelo, the Jazz Band, and all students who made this day truly special.

Updates on 2025/2026 School Year

Staffing Updates

We are currently interviewing for several important positions for the upcoming school year, including two aide positions (one part-time and one full-time) as well as two teacher positions for 4th grade and middle school.

Mrs. Sundholm, who had earlier agreed to come on staff full-time, has reassessed her family commitments and feels that it would be best to remain part-time to attend to the needs of her family. We respect her decision and are grateful that she will remain on our staff, embodying the Catholic value of prioritizing family.

This means we are now seeking a highly qualified English/Language Arts teacher to replace Mrs. Johnson, who is retiring at the end of this year. If you know of an excellent candidate, please encourage them to apply. We are in contact with local universities and utilizing recruitment tools to find the perfect addition to our faith-filled educational community.

Catholic Counseling Support

In our ongoing commitment to nurture the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—we are exploring the addition of a part-time or volunteer Catholic counselor to our staff. This initiative comes in response to thoughtful requests from both teachers and parents who recognize the importance of providing our students with faith-centered guidance and emotional support.

Our parish priests have been instrumental in this discernment process, offering valuable suggestions and connections to Catholic organizations that may help fulfill this need. We are blessed by their wisdom and support as we work to enhance the spiritual and emotional well-being of our school community. As this endeavor progresses, we will share updates on this important addition to our ministry of education.

Safety Grant & Parking Lot Improvements

We are pleased to announce that the Safety and Security Grant we were awarded last fall has been un-frozen, and our team is working diligently to organize improvements to the school. These enhancements will help us better safeguard the precious children entrusted to our care.

We extend our sincere gratitude to HMH for their wonderful work on the parking lot extensions, both Phase 1 and Phase 2. Those who attended the Gala received a first glimpse of the approved plans. We will now be working with contractors to move forward on Phase 1 of the extension. As good stewards of our resources, we will keep you updated as the project progresses, ensuring our campus continues to serve our community’s needs safely and effectively.

Pax et bonum,

Sue Styren, M.Ed.
