Dear HFCS Families & Friends,
As we journey through this fifth week of Lent, drawing ever closer to the sacred days of Holy Week, I am reminded of Christ’s words: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). This spirit of selfless dedication is beautifully exemplified by our volunteer coaches and the entire sports program community.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our volunteers who have made our athletics programs possible this year. Your generous gift of time, expertise, and enthusiasm has provided our students with invaluable opportunities for growth, teamwork, and character development. Our volunteer coaches have worked wonders with both our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams this season, and their dedication deserves our deepest appreciation.
Though our school will be on spring break, I encourage everyone to come out and support our basketball players at this weekend’s tournament on Friday and Saturday. Your presence in the stands would mean so much to our young athletes who continue to represent our school with determination and heart.
As we prepare our hearts for Holy Week, let us remember to keep the families in our community in our prayers, especially those facing health challenges. In this Lenten season of reflection and renewal, our community of prayer can be a source of comfort and healing for those who are suffering.
As St. Paul reminds us, “As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ….If [one] part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy” (1 Corinthians 12:26).
Please also remember to keep Fr. Sleeva in your prayers as he mourns the recent loss of a fellow seminarian and friend to tragedy. May God’s peace bring comfort during this difficult time.
I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating spring break. As we return, may we be prepared to walk the sacred journey of Holy Week together and embrace the profound joy of Easter that awaits us.
Pax et bonum,
Sue Styren, M.Ed.
