Dear HFCS Families & Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your loved ones safe, happy, and enjoying the beautiful gifts of this summer season. As we pause from our regular academic routine, summer presents us with a precious opportunity to strengthen the bonds that matter most—our relationship with God, our connection with family, and our commitment to lifelong learning.
Growing Together in Faith and Knowledge
During these warm months, I encourage you to embrace simple yet meaningful ways to keep your family grounded in faith while nurturing your children’s academic growth. These practices don’t require elaborate planning—just intentional moments that weave together prayer, learning, and togetherness.
Consider establishing a weekly Family Rosary Night, where you gather to pray the rosary together. This sacred tradition not only deepens your family’s spiritual life but also creates a peaceful rhythm that children will carry with them throughout their lives. As Mary pondered God’s word in her heart, these quiet moments of prayer help our families reflect on God’s love and guidance.
Thursday Evening Reading Time can become a cherished family tradition. Choose books that inspire, educate, or simply bring joy—whether it’s lives of the saints, classic literature, or stories that spark meaningful conversations. Reading together strengthens both literacy skills and family bonds, creating memories that last far beyond summer’s end.
For maintaining mathematical skills, consider dedicating just 10-15 minutes each evening to engaging with educational apps like IXL or working through fun math problems together. These brief sessions prevent the “summer slide” while showing your children that learning is a joyful, ongoing part of life.
The Blessing of Intentional Time
Saint John Paul II reminded us that “the family is the first school of human life.” This summer, your home becomes a sanctuary where faith, learning, and love intersect naturally. These simple practices help your children understand that growth—both spiritual and academic—happens not just in the classroom but in the loving embrace of family life.
As we prepare for the 2025-26 school year, these summer rhythms will serve as a strong foundation for the learning and spiritual growth that lies ahead. When families prioritize both faith and education, children develop into well-rounded individuals who understand that all knowledge ultimately points us toward our Creator.
May God bless you abundantly during these summer days. May your family find joy in prayer, delight in learning, and peace in one another’s company.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
