Our language arts program is aligned with Idaho state standards and is composed of reading, spelling, writing and literature. Incorporated into our program is a system that teaches students to effectively communicate through reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Skill development is an important component. We integrate reading comprehension skills, strategies of phonics, spelling, six-trait writing, grammar and handwriting into daily activities.
We also use the Accelerated Reading and Lexia programs to challenge, remediate and supplement our curriculum. Our teachers strive to create a classroom environment that exposes our students to a broad variety of literature, resource materials and current technology.
Holy Family’s spring 2012 MAP* assessment scores confirm that our language arts program is effective. Students tested in grades 3 through 8 scored 100% advanced or proficient in Reading and 96% advanced and proficient in Language. Our scores far exceed national scores and those of other Catholic schools in the state of Idaho.
*MAP (Measures of Academic Performance) is a national test through the Northwest Evaluation Association.
