Homework Policy

Homework is for the purpose of enrichment, reinforcement, and application of concepts previously taught, as well as to foster good study practices.   Average nightly homework requirements for HFCS students are as follows:

PreK & Kindergarten

15 minutes of homework

2nd Grade - 4th Grade

30 minutes of homework

5th Grade

45 minutes of homework

6th Grade

60 minutes of homework

7th Grade

70 minutes of homework

8th Grade

80 minutes of homework

Homework can nurture self-discipline and independent study habits.  When parents show interest and become involved, the homework accomplishments can become a common goal and a time to work together.  This offers the student instruction not always available at school.  Taking an active role lets your child know that you consider the work important.

Late Assignments:  HFCS expects timely completion of homework.  Teachers may use discretion in accepting and/or grading late assignments.

HFCS offers after school homework help for students.  Grades 3-5 can stay after school for homework room on Mondays-Thursdays from 3-4 pm.  Middle School study hall is available with a certified teacher on Mondays-Thursdays from 3-4 pm.  Scholarships are available for qualified families.
