Blog – Celebrating Faith, Life, and Vocations

Dear HFCS Families & Friends,

As we transition from October into November, our school community has been blessed with beautiful expressions of faith and tradition that remind us of the richness of our Catholic heritage.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Student Council for creating such a stunning Ofrenda display in our main hallway. This meaningful tradition helps us remember and honor our departed loved ones, connecting us to the beautiful tapestry of saints and souls who have gone before us. Similarly, thank you to our Campus Minister and Anne Farrens for the powerful 40 Days for Life display that has graced our entry this past month, reminding us of our sacred calling to protect and cherish all life from conception to natural death.

The celebration of All Saints and All Souls Days holds a special place in our Catholic tradition, inviting us to hold our loved ones close to our hearts and in our prayers. These holy days remind us that we are part of the great Communion of Saints – those on earth and those in heaven – all united in God’s love.

Friday was truly a spectacular day of celebration! My deepest thanks to our 2nd and 8th grade classes for their wonderful Saint presentations, and to the Relic Project for joining us and enriching our understanding of these holy men and women who inspire us to live our faith courageously.

As we enter November, I invite our entire school community to participate in National Vocation Awareness Week during the first full week of this month. This annual celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States is dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education. Let us renew our prayers and support for those who are discerning these sacred callings and join together in asking the Holy Spirit to guide more hearts to respond to God’s call.

Pax et bonum,

Sue Styren, M.Ed.
